My creative journey started in printed textiles. I originally trained in textiles for fashion at Brighton School of Art, and then went onto work as a freelance designer selling my designs to the New York market; after that I co-founded Tyrrell Katz, a children’s accessory company. After 16 years of successfully building up this brand, I decided it was time to get back to my artistic roots and started to experiment with clay.

In the medium of clay, I have found a way of creating one off pieces. I’ve brought my love of colour, mark making and illustration into this medium; whether that is tableware where each piece is inspired by nature and the seasons, or my love and homage to beautiful trees, and most recently experimenting with watercolours; a new medium that is perfect for its spontaneous effects with its effervescent colour.

It feels like there’s so much in this world that I love to connect to, I never switch off to the beauty in my surroundings, whether that’s an acorn or a majestic oak tree. I always like to have a sketch book or camera close at hand to capture special moments. In other words, colour and texture are constantly in my mind, even to the point of influencing what I wear every day! I aim to capture that essence in my work.

I have shown my work in solo shows at Kj‘s laundry, Marylebone. A tree installation With Chelsea Fringe, and I also take part in group design and craft fairs.
